There’s no denying that living with gynecomastia or manboobs can be tough.
How many times have you been conscious about your chest area when you wear a nice shirt for an event or for sports? The scariest among these events in my opinion, is going swimming since there doesn’t seem to be any options other than to go without a shirt (NO WAY!) or to wear a shirt that will get wet and make your nipples look even more obvious.
This is a problem faced by millions of men around the world and you’re not alone…
So what’s the cheapest and easiest way to hide this day to day problem? Compression undershirts!
The main purpose of a compression shirt is to of course reduce the bulge in the chest area with the use of tight elastics. However, there are other factors that might normally be overlooked. In order to rank my top compression shirts for gynecomastia, I’ll use the following criteria (each rated out of 5 points):
- Material Quality – Based on the material used, the durability of the design, and customer reviews
- Style Availability – Color, size, and styles available
- Breathability – Does it allow your body to naturally breathe through the material
- Water/Sweat resistance – How well it can handle water and sweat
- Value – Overall value of the product
Here are my top 5 recommendations:
This good looking sports compression shirt is my top pick because of its all-round high performance across all categories. It is one that I have personally used for many years while playing sports or other high-intensity activities.
Material Quality (4/5)
The Under Armour Charged series is made up of a blend of high-tech materials. It contains 59% Nylon and 41% Elastane, which makes it extremely durable and long-lasting. Under Armour is known for their high-quality clothing and this is no exception as seen by customer reviews on Amazon and other websites. Under Armour’s tried and tested 4-way stretch construction means that it moves better in every direction and is extremely durable for sports. The only issue I’ve experienced with this was some minor over stretching around the wrist area. Due to this I’ve reduced the score to 4 out of 5.
Style Availability (3/5)
The sizes available range from Small – XXX Large, giving choices to a massive number of chest and wait sizes. This specific model only comes in Graphite/Black colors, which is not a lot to choose from. However, this color and design work really well that it can be worn without a shirt covering it.
The specially formulated material was designed for active use and therefore allows your skin to easily breathe through the material. The smooth flatlock seam construction contains micro holes to let air escape and enter during movements.
Water/Sweat Resistance (5/5)
Under Armour has always specialized in athletic wear, so sweat and water resistance have always been a top priority for obvious reasons. The special material wicks sweat & dries really fast. It also contains anti-odor technology which prevents the growth of odor-causing microbes. Additionally, because it’s machine washable, I have never experienced any bad odor sticking to the shirt in my 2 years of ownership.
The Under Armour brand is well-reputed and is known for creating high-quality products. This combined with the fact that it’s extremely durable, stylish, and well rounded from personal experience, I believe that it poses an extremely valuable proposition. However, it is slightly higher priced compared to other options that might push certain buyers away. Although, this initial investment practically pays for itself in the long term. For approximately the price of 3 dinners, you would be able to gain the confidence to attend any event in the future including athletic ones.

All these shirts are great options for a cheap, non-surgical solution to the embarrassment of gynecomastia. Also, depending on the type of compression shirt you choose, it can become an essential asset to your wardrobe that would start paying for itself!
However, at the end of the day, there are only 2 ways to permanently reduce or get rid of this problem. These are surgical and non-surgical methods. Readers of my blog will know that I tend to discourage gynecomastia surgery as an option as it’s not affordable to most people, and it comes with lots of risks and complications.
